Snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier from Gullfoss
Drive across a glacier and stop for views that stretch to the horizon
A 4-hour snowmobile activity on Langjökull glacier departing from Gullfoss, in the Icelandic Highlands. You ride in a modified mountain truck to the basecamp, receive safety instruction and gear, then spend one hour on the snowmobile crossing the glacier with photo stops, before returning to the meeting point. Children from age 6 are welcome, and a professional guide leads in multiple languages.
The Experience
The day starts at Gullfoss Café, where you meet the guide and climb into a specially modified mountain truck for the drive up to the glacier basecamp. The route crosses rugged highland roads and open mountain scenery—the terrain itself already feels like part of the adventure before you touch a snowmobile. Once at basecamp, the guide fits you with a winter suit, helmet, gloves and a Buff, then walks you through the safety briefing and how to operate the machine.
Then you head out for a one-hour ride across the wide, snowy landscape of Langjökull. The guide stops during the ride so you can take photos and stand in the fresh glacier air, the views stretching out in every direction. It's the kind of moment that feels a world away from everything else. After the ride, you return to Gullfoss.
Arrive 10–15 minutes before departure. The tour runs in English, Spanish, Italian, French and other languages. Two riders share each snowmobile, and if you're traveling with children, one adult must accompany each child or teenager on the machine.
