Cook Like a Hungarian Grandma: Budapest Cooking Class
You cook the whole meal yourself, then eat it together
A 3-hour hands-on cooking class in Budapest where you prepare goulash soup, chicken paprikash and apple strudel from scratch in a small group, then sit down to a three-course dinner with your fellow cooks and local wine. Everyone actively cooks and bakes each dish (no demonstrations or watching from the side), and you take the recipes home to use again.

The experience
What separates this from a cooking demonstration is that you're the one doing every step. You'll work in a professional kitchen alongside a live English-speaking chef, preparing goulash soup with beef and vegetables, creamy chicken paprikash with fresh-made nokedli (spatzle), and a classic apple strudel with thin phyllo pastry and cinnamon filling. If you prefer, a mushroom paprikash option is available instead of the chicken. The class runs three hours, which gives you time to actually learn the technique rather than rush through it. You can ask questions as you go, taste as you cook, and build skills you'll use at home.
After everything is cooked and baked, you sit down together in a friendly atmosphere to eat the three-course meal you've just made, with a glass of wine included. A welcome shot of pálinka arrives when you get there, and soft drinks are available throughout. You leave with printed recipes for every dish, so the cooking doesn't stop when the class ends. The kitchen is located on either Bécsi street in Buda or Páva street in Pest, both accessible by public transport. Vegetarian options and dietary accommodations for allergies and religious restrictions can be arranged if you mention them when you book.

Is this one for you?You cook the whole meal yourself in a small group with a live chef guiding you in English, which means you actually learn the techniques and leave with recipes you can use at home, not the right fit if you prefer to watch a demonstration or need a private one-on-one lesson.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 9 years); Infant (under 1).
What dishes do I actually cook in the three hours?
You prepare goulash soup with beef and vegetables, chicken paprikash with fresh-made nokedli, and apple strudel with phyllo and cinnamon filling. A mushroom paprikash option replaces the chicken dish if you prefer. Each one you make from scratch, and then you eat all three as a three-course meal at the end of the class.
Is this a demonstration where I watch, or do I cook the food myself?
You cook everything yourself. The chef guides you through each step in English, but there's no standing around watching. Everyone in the small group is actively slicing, stirring, tasting and baking their own dishes the whole time.
What's included in the price, and do I need to bring anything?
All ingredients, the three-course meal, a welcome shot of pálinka, wine with dinner, soft drinks, and printed recipes to take home are all included. You don't need to bring anything except yourself and an appetite.
Can I do this if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
Vegetarian menus are available on request. Allergies and religious dietary restrictions can be accommodated, though options may be limited: mention your requirements when you book so the kitchen can prepare for you.
