Snorkeling in Santorini: Sunset Catamaran with Hot Springs
Swim in water warmed by the volcano, then watch the sun drop behind Thirassia Island from the deck.
A five-hour catamaran tour from Santorini that sails past the volcano, stops at the hot springs for a swim, and anchors at Red and White Beaches for snorkeling. The boat holds a maximum of twenty passengers, includes a live guide in English or Greek, hotel pickup, snorkeling gear, towels and a grilled Greek menu prepared on board, plus local wine and beer throughout. The tour ends at Amoudi Bay timed to catch the sunset.
Step-by-step itinerary
Santorini luxury sailing and sightseeing
- Start your tour
- Swim and snorkel at Red Beach
- Swim, snorkel and enjoy BBQ at White Beach
- Watch the Ancient Lighthouse from the sea
- Swim in the Hot Springs
- Sail next to Palea Kameni
- Sail next to the Volcano
- End your tour in Ammoudi Port
The Experience
The catamaran leaves from Amoudi Bay and heads toward the volcano, staying close enough to see the crater wall and the dark volcanic rock. You'll sail past Palea Kameni before reaching the hot springs, where the crew anchors about fifty meters offshore—close enough to swim in water that runs four degrees warmer than the surrounding sea, heated by the volcano beneath. The snorkeling gear is already on board, so you put it on and slip into the water without arranging anything separately.
The boat then moves to Red Beach and White Beach, the two main snorkeling stops where the crew has chosen the closest safe points to the shore. You spend time in the water at each one, and between swims the galley prepares a fresh Greek menu: grilled chicken, shrimp saganaki, Greek salad, roasted vegetables, pasta and stuffed vine leaves, plus a vegetarian option. Local Santorinian white wine, beer, soft drinks and water flow throughout the day—no asking, no extra charge.
As the afternoon fades, the catamaran sails between Oia village and Thirassia Island and holds position for the sunset. You watch from the deck with a towel and a drink, the crew having timed the whole route to end at Amoudi Bay as the light goes. A driver meets you there and takes you back to your hotel. Bring a contact number and your accommodation name—the operator calls a day before to confirm the pickup time and location.

Can I snorkel if I've never done it before?
Yes. The snorkeling equipment is provided on board, and the crew selects the safest, shallowest spots at Red and White Beaches. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, and the catamaran stays in shallow water close to the shore at each stop.
What happens at the hot springs—do we get in the water?
The catamaran anchors about fifty meters from the hot springs and you swim out to them. The water is warmed by geothermal activity from the volcano and runs roughly four degrees warmer than the open sea, so the swim is comfortable and safe.
Is the sunset guaranteed, or does weather change the schedule?
The tour is timed to end at sunset, but the exact time shifts with the season. After daylight saving time ends, the tour runs from 12:30 until sunset at roughly 17:30. The operator will confirm the exact departure time when they call to arrange your pickup.
What's included in the meal on board?
A freshly prepared Greek menu with grilled chicken, shrimp saganaki, Greek salad, roasted vegetables, pasta with red sauce, stuffed vine leaves and a vegetarian option. Local Santorinian white wine, beer, soft drinks, water and juice are served throughout the five hours.
Do I need to bring anything, or is everything provided?
Snorkeling gear, towels, a blanket and a map of the landmarks are all on board. Wear shoes until you step onto the catamaran—you'll remove them before boarding. Bring sunscreen and a light layer if you're sensitive to sun, and have your hotel details ready for the pickup confirmation call.
