The experience

You start by telling the guide what interests you. Oia, the island's most famous village, sits 120 meters above the caldera with whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches that draw photographers worldwide. Imerovigli offers the same caldera views but quieter: a 15-minute walk from Fira's center through a preserved traditional settlement where you can wander cobblestone alleys without the crowds. Firostefani gives you the caldera view again, this time from a more relaxed angle. The guide knows all three and can suggest which one fits your mood, or you can skip them entirely.

The Monastery of Profitis Ilias sits at 565 meters, the island's highest point, and the view from there is unmatched, especially at sunset. Pyrgos, another mountain settlement, offers 360-degree views of the mainland, volcano and sea, and has stayed largely untouched by tourism.
