Carve Your Own Marble in a Naxos Olive Grove

You'll spend three hours learning marble carving techniques in an olive grove workshop, guided by JB through the process of shaping Naxos marble into a souvenir of your choice. The workshop provides all tools, materials, and protective equipment, and you take your finished piece home. Sessions run from 5pm and suit all fitness levels.

3h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Arrive at workshop location
  • Receive introduction to marble carving
  • Choose marble stone to carve
  • Learn to use manual and electric tools
  • Carve your own marble souvenir
  • Complete and take home your project

The Experience

Dust catches the late-afternoon light as your chisel meets Naxos marble for the first time. You're standing in a workshop nestled among olive trees, the kind of place that feels like it's been here longer than the island itself. Your instructor, JB, hands you the tools—hammer, chisels, safety goggles—and points to the block of white stone in front of you. Three hours. That's all you have to turn it into something you'll carry home and remember for years.

The marble carving workshop starts at 5pm, when the heat breaks and the light softens. You'll work with both manual tools and electric chisels, learning how to read the stone, how to angle your strikes, where the marble wants to break and where it will resist. JB walks you through the process—how to rough out a shape, how to refine it, how to coax something recognizable from raw material. Most people come away with a Cycladic head, a pyramid, a small donkey, or a jewelry holder. The choice is yours, and so is the pace. You're not racing. You're learning.

Everything you need is provided: the marble itself (you pick from what's available), hand tools and electric chisels, protective gear—goggles, gloves, ear muffs, dust masks. The workshop handles the noise and the mess. By the time you're done, you've got something solid in your hands, something you made, something that came from this island. That's the whole point. You take it back to your hotel, pack it carefully, and later—months later, maybe—you'll set it on a shelf or a desk and remember the afternoon you spent in an olive grove on Naxos, learning to carve stone.

What’s included

Your 3-hour session includes marble stone of your choice, all hand and electric carving tools, protective equipment (goggles, gloves, ear muffs, dust masks), and personal instruction from JB. You keep whatever you carve.
