More experiences you might like

You shop for ingredients at Africa's largest market, then cook them in someone's kitchen.

A five-hour experience in Kumasi that pairs a guided tour of Kejetia Central Market, where you buy ingredients alongside locals, with a private cooking class at a family home. You'll prepare and eat three traditional Ghanaian dishes: fufu with peanut soup, ampesi with garden egg stew, and banku with okra stew. The tour includes transportation, a live English-speaking guide, bottled water, and all ingredients for cooking. Children from age 10 are welcome.

The Experience

The day starts at Kejetia Central Market, the largest in West Africa, where you move through stalls with a local guide and buy the exact ingredients you'll cook with later. This is not a walk-past-and-observe tour. You're selecting what goes into your pot, learning what locals choose and why, and understanding the rhythm of the market as a place where people actually shop. The guide handles the navigation and the negotiation. You handle the choosing.

After the market, you head to a local family's home for the cooking class. There's no demonstration kitchen or instructor standing apart. You're in their space, working alongside them to prepare fufu and peanut soup, ampesi with stew, and banku with okra. The ingredients you bought are the ones you cook with. When the food is ready, you sit and eat it together, the way the family does every day. Transportation and a bottle of water are included throughout.

The five-hour window is tight enough to fit both the market and the cooking into one morning or afternoon, but long enough that neither feels rushed. Infants and small children can come along in a stroller or car seat.

Is this one for you?The five-hour commitment means you can fit this into a morning or afternoon without losing the rest of your day, but it's long enough that both the market and the cooking class have room to breathe instead of feeling like a quick stop.
