The train from Paris St Lazare takes just over two hours to Bayeux, and your guide meets you at the station when you arrive. That's the setup — no rental car, no navigation, no stress about finding the sites. You step off the platform and the day is already organized. The tour covers the American sectors of the D-Day invasion, which means Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the cemetery, and Sainte-Mère-Église. Your guide walks you through what happened at each one, and the scale of it hits different when you're standing on the actual sand or looking at the bunkers still scarred from 1944.

Omaha Beach is where you start. The guide explains the landings in detail — the conditions, the objectives, the cost — and then gives you about 15 minutes to walk on the sand yourself, depending on the tide. It's quiet now. After that, you drive to the Normandy American Cemetery, and the guide takes time to explain why it's positioned where it is, the stories of the people buried there. The last stop is Sainte-Mère-Église, where the 82nd Airborne dropped on D-Day. You're there for an hour and a half. Lunch isn't included in the tour price, so you can grab something in the village or spend the whole time at the Airborne Museum, which is right there facing the church. The museum has a C-47 aircraft and a glider you can board, with sound and light effects, so you get a sense of what the drop was like. It's immersive without being cheesy. The whole day is in an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional guide who speaks English, and the Airborne Museum entry is included in what you pay.

You'll need to book your own train tickets from Paris to Bayeux and back — that's not part of the tour price. But that's also why this works as a day trip from Paris. You're not renting a car or hiring a driver for the whole day. You take the train, meet your guide, spend the day on the beaches and in the cemeteries, and catch the return train in the evening.
