The Normandy American Cemetery sits on the bluffs above Omaha, rows of white crosses stretching further than most visitors expect; the place tends to quiet people down. You also pass through Longues-sur-Mer, where four German artillery casemates still overlook the English Channel as part of what was Hitler's Atlantic Wall. Between the heavy sites, a stop at Ferme de la Sapinière — a cidery founded in the 16th century — gives the day a different rhythm. You taste local ciders crafted from Normandy apples, grounded in the region's own story.
