The Experience
If you're staying in Paris without a car, the minivan picks you up and handles the drive to Normandy—roughly 2.5 hours each way. The tour runs 12 to 13 hours total, so you leave early and return late, but the route is fixed and the timing is arranged. Skip-the-line entry at the Overlord Museum means you walk straight past the queue at the door, and the guide narrates the collection of Higgins boats, Sherman tanks and Panzer tanks that show both sides of the invasion.
The day moves through the actual landing grounds. Omaha Beach is where you stand on the same sand the youngest American soldiers crossed under fire—the guide explains why it was the most difficult objective and what the troops faced. From there you visit a German Battery with a fully intact Command Bunker and three other bunkers still armed, and you climb inside with the guide to see the Atlantic Wall defenses from the German perspective. Pointe du Hoc is the 110-foot seaside cliff where Rudder's Rangers scaled the rock face with rocket-powered grappling hooks and bayonets; you walk around the bomb craters to the cliff edge itself and see what they were climbing toward.
Lunch happens at a local mom-and-pop restaurant—think salads, omelets, crepes and grilled meats, not fancy dining. You order and pay separately (budget 10–20€), so you eat what appeals to you. After lunch comes the American Cemetery, where 9,388 white marble tombs stand in straight lines. You walk among the Crosses and Stars of David with the guide, including the graves of Medal of Honor winners and the Niland brothers whose real story inspired Saving Private Ryan. The tour closes with a stop at a local apple orchard for a tasting of Normandy's hard cider and apple juice—the operator pays for the tasting.

Can I do a D-Day tour from Paris without renting a car?
Yes. This tour includes minivan transport from Paris to all the Normandy sites and back, so you don't need to drive or arrange your own way there. The guide handles the route and timing.
What exactly is Omaha Beach and why does it matter?
Omaha Beach was the landing zone assigned to American forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and it was planned as the most difficult objective of the invasion. You walk on the actual beach where those troops came ashore and learn about their sacrifice from the guide.
Will I actually go inside the German bunkers?
Yes. The German Battery you visit has a fully intact Command Bunker and three other bunkers that are still armed, and the guide takes you inside to show you how the defenses were set up and what happened on the morning of D-Day from the German side.
What is Pointe du Hoc and how high is the cliff?
Pointe du Hoc is a strategic clifftop position that was a top priority to capture on D-Day. The seaside cliff is 110 feet tall, and you walk around the bomb craters to the edge to see where Rudder's Rangers climbed up with rocket-powered grappling hooks and bayonets.
Is lunch included in the tour price?
No. You stop at a local restaurant and order from the menu yourself, paying separately. Plan on spending 10–20€ for a meal of fresh local food like salads, omelets, barbecued meats or crepes.
What is included in the cider tasting?
The tour stops at a local Normandy apple orchard where you taste the region's hard cider and apple juice. The operator pays for the tasting, so there's no extra cost.
