The Experience
Dust clung to my shoes as we stepped out of the van—Cairo’s morning sun already warming the air. Our guide, Hossam, waved us over with a grin and handed out cold bottles of water. Right away, I caught the faint smell of horses from the nearby stables and heard vendors calling out in Arabic, selling postcards and little stone scarabs.
The first sight of the Great Pyramid is something you don’t forget. It’s massive—way bigger than any photo shows. Hossam shared how it’s the only one left from the original Seven Wonders. He pointed out tiny carvings near the base that most folks walk right past. We ducked inside for a peek; it was cooler in there, almost silent except for our footsteps echoing off old stones.
Next up was Khafre’s pyramid—easier to spot because it still has some smooth casing stones at the top. The Sphinx sits just below, its face weathered but still proud. I snapped a photo with its paws in the frame while Hossam told us about all the wild theories people have about its missing nose. There’s a small café nearby where we grabbed sweet mint tea before heading back, sand crunching under our feet.
