The experience

Your guide picks you up from your Cairo or Giza hotel and drives you first to the Giza Plateau, where you spend the morning with the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos. You walk to the Valley Temple, where priests mummified the pharaohs, and stand in front of the Sphinx. The three pyramids and the temple are the core of the tour. Interior access to the pyramids and camel rides around the plateau can be added for an extra charge if you want them.

From Giza, the route heads southwest to Saqqara, about 27 kilometers away. The Step Pyramid of Zoser sits there: the oldest stone structure in Egypt and a turning point in how pyramids were built, the bridge between the flat mastabas and the towering forms that followed. After Saqqara, you move on to Memphis, the ancient capital that dates back to 3100 B.C., where the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx stand in the open-air museum. Your guide then transfers you back to your hotel.
