The Experience
The day starts around 8 AM with pickup from your hotel or apartment in El Gouna — a private bus takes you to Abydos harbor just minutes away. From there, the boat Vienna, a 25-meter vessel, heads out to one of 55 accessible dive sites in the area. You have time on the sun deck or in the shade to get your equipment ready during the ride, so there's no rush to be fully geared before you leave the harbor.
At the first site, a briefing prepares you for the dive, then you're in the water. After you surface and decompress, there's a break before the second dive — this is when lunch becomes an option (ordered separately). While you eat or rest, the boat moves to the next site. A second briefing and dive follow the same rhythm. The spacing between dives means you're not racing through the day; the guide stays with you both times to keep you safe and point out what's worth seeing.
Once the second dive is done, the boat returns to Abydos harbor and the bus brings you back to your hotel. The whole outing runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off. Equipment rental is available if you don't have your own; if you do, bring it along. The boat carries experienced guides who speak English, German or Arabic, so communication is straightforward whether you're asking about a site or need clarification on a procedure.
