The experience

The tour starts with airport pickup and a hotel night in Cairo, then moves into the rhythm of the itinerary: private air-conditioned vehicle by day, overnight train car-bed between cities. Day two takes you to Giza to see the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx before boarding the sleeper train to Luxor. Day three covers the Luxor Temple, built for daily religious rituals and dedicated to the god Amun, and the Karnak Temple complex, where a main temple houses smaller temples devoted to different deities.

Day four focuses on Luxor's western bank: the Valley of the Kings, where New Kingdom pharaohs chose to be buried away from the Nile's flood, the Temple of Hatshepsut (the funerary temple of Egypt's only female pharaoh to rule alone), and the Colossi of Memnon, two seated quartzite statues of Amenhotep III carved in the third century BC. You board the train back to Cairo that evening. Day five begins with the Egyptian Museum, opened in 1901 and spanning two floors, then moves to Old Cairo's Coptic Quarter with its third and fourth-century churches, the Cairo Citadel built by Salah El Din, and Khan El-Khalili bazaar. Day six is a day trip to Alexandria: the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, blending Egyptian and Hellenistic-Roman art from the first and second centuries, and the Citadel of Qaitbay, built in the late fifteenth century on the site of an ancient lighthouse, with a small naval museum inside and panoramic views from its walls. The tour ends with breakfast and airport transfer on day seven.

A Spanish-speaking Egyptologist guide accompanies all excursions. All transport between sites uses private air-conditioned vehicles. The package includes three nights in Cairo hotels, one night in a Luxor hotel, and two nights in train car-beds, all with breakfast. Mineral water is provided on each trip in Cairo and Giza. Airport pickup and return are included, as is assistance throughout your stay.
