The experience
You start with pickup from your central Guayaquil hotel around 10am and travel via Naranjal to reach the farm. The property has been worked by the same family for generations, and the guide walks you through how cacao is planted, what it looks like as it grows, and every step that turns the raw fruit into chocolate. This is hands-on: you'll handle cacao pods straight from the trees, then move into the shed to roast, husk and grind the seeds yourself until they become chocolate paste. The work is physical but not strenuous, and the guide explains what's happening at each stage.
Between the harvesting and the grinding, you'll walk through the crops: cacao trees alongside bananas, rice fields and other tropical fruits that the farm grows. These same ingredients show up in lunch, which is prepared fresh on the property using what's been harvested. After you eat, there's time to taste the chocolate you've made before the transfer back to your hotel, which happens at the end of the afternoon.
