You drive the buggy through forests and farm trails to three stops you pick the pace for.

An off-road buggy activity in Punta Cana where you drive your own ATV in a guided caravan through Dominican countryside, stopping at an organic farm for tastings, a 25-foot water cave for swimming, and Macao Beach. Round-trip transportation from your hotel is included, and a live guide in multiple languages leads the group. Children from age 8 are welcome; the full experience takes around 4 hours.

The Experience

You'll spend 30 minutes getting transported to the ATV ranch, then receive a 15-minute safety briefing before climbing into your buggy. From there, the day is a series of drives and stops you control the speed of. The guide leads a caravan in rally style across rough roads that cut between forests and tropical gardens—each leg takes about 25 minutes of actual driving, which means you're moving but not rushing. The terrain is what makes this different from a road tour: you're navigating the backroads themselves, not watching them pass.

Your first stop is a working Dominican farm where you taste and learn about what grows there—coffee, cacao, green tea, mamajuana, and cigars—for about 20 minutes. Then you drive again to a water cave 25 feet deep where swimmers jump in and everyone else can wade or just stand in the cool air. The cave is the kind of place that doesn't appear on a standard beach day, and the swim break is built into the schedule, not squeezed in. After that, one more drive takes you to Macao Beach, where you have 20 minutes to walk the sand and sit under the limestone cliffs before heading back to the ranch and then to your hotel.

The group stays small enough that the guide can keep everyone together, and you choose whether you want your own buggy or share one—that choice happens at checkout. A live guide in English, Spanish, Italian, French and one other language rides with the group the whole way, so navigation and safety are handled. The whole loop, including transport to and from the ranch, runs about 4 hours.

Top questions

What's the water cave like, and can I swim in it?

The water cave is 25 feet deep with clear water, and swimmers can jump in while others can wade or explore the cave itself. You'll have about 20 minutes at the stop to swim or rest in the cool air before driving to the next location.

Do I have to drive the buggy myself, or can I ride with someone?

You choose at checkout: one option gives you your own buggy to drive, and the other option lets you share one with another person. Either way, you're part of the caravan following the guide.

How much driving experience do I need?

No experience is necessary. You'll get a 15-minute safety briefing at the ranch before you start, and the guide leads the caravan at a pace that works for everyone. The roads are rough but the speeds are controlled.

What happens at the Dominican farm stop?

You'll taste and learn about locally grown organic products including coffee, cacao, green tea, mamajuana, and cigars. The stop lasts about 20 minutes, and it's a chance to see how things are grown on the island.

Is Macao Beach crowded, and how much time do I spend there?

Macao Beach is described as one of the most unspoiled beaches in the region. You'll have about 20 minutes to walk the sand and relax under the limestone cliffs before heading back to the ranch.

What's included in the price?

Round-trip transportation from your hotel to the ATV ranch is included, along with the buggy rental, the guide, tastings at the farm, and access to all three stops. Bring your own towel, sunscreen, sunglasses and any personal accessories you want.
