The day runs 10 and a half hours from pickup. You drive through Jaragua National Park (1,374 square kilometers and the largest in the Dominican Republic) following the scenic coastal road to Cabo Rojo, where a boat waits. The 15-minute boat ride takes you to Bahía de las Águilas, a beach 8 kilometers long with white sand and no development visible from the water. Swimming and rest are both options. The beach itself is the main event.

On the return journey, the group stops for lunch before heading to Oviedo, a small village that sits near Oviedo Lagoon. From there you board a boat again to reach one of the lagoon's islands, where iguanas live and a scenic viewpoint overlooks the water. The park's variety of ecosystems (mangrove, lagoon, isolated beach, coastal scrub) shows itself across the single day without requiring separate trips.

An air-conditioned vehicle handles the driving portions. Bottled water and soda travel with the group. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on the option selected at checkout. How do you actually get to Bahía de las Águilas if there's no road?

A boat departs from Cabo Rojo and takes 15 minutes to reach the beach. The isolation, no coastal road connects to it, is why the beach stays undeveloped and why the boat is the only way in.

What's the Oviedo Lagoon stop like?

Oviedo Lagoon is a separate ecosystem within the park where you take a second boat ride to one of its islands. Iguanas live on the islands, and a scenic viewpoint gives a panoramic view of the lagoon itself.

Is snorkeling gear provided, or do I need to bring my own?
