ATV Riding in Puerto Plata: Jungle Trails & Monkey Encounter

The experience

You arrive at the trailhead and gear up with a helmet, protective equipment and your ATV. The guide (Edgar, Francisco or another member of the experienced team) briefs you on the machine and the route ahead. Then you're off into the rugged landscape: muddy jungle paths, twisting single-track through lush vegetation, streams to splash across, and climbs that open onto mountain views. The pace is set so first-timers feel in control and experienced riders get the adrenaline. The guide stays with the group the whole way, reading the terrain and making sure everyone is safe and having fun.

After the ride, you transition to the Monkey Home, a tropical sanctuary where the real surprise happens. Squirrel monkeys (small, curious, and fearless) hop directly onto your shoulders, playfully grab treats from your hands, and pose for photos. The guides there explain the monkeys' behavior and habits while you interact with them. It's the kind of close-up wildlife moment most travelers don't expect to have in the middle of an adventure.

You finish with a sit-down lunch of traditional Dominican food, made with local ingredients and the flavors that define the island's cooking. The air-conditioned van picks you up from your hotel and brings you back, so the whole day (ride, wildlife, meal and transport) is arranged. Soda and bottled water come along throughout.
