Roll dough on a wooden spit and bake Prague's most famous pastry warm in your hands.

A 60-minute chimney cake workshop in Prague where you knead, shape and bake a traditional Trdelník on an authentic wooden spit, then choose your toppings and enjoy it fresh with coffee or tea. The session includes a brief history of the pastry, all ingredients and materials, and a certificate to take home. A live English-speaking instructor guides the whole group through the process in a shared kitchen space.

The Experience

You arrive at the workshop with an hour free and no baking experience required. The instructor begins with a warm welcome and the story behind Prague's Trdelník—how it became the city's most iconic sweet treat. Then you move to the workstations where the real work starts: kneading the dough, shaping it into a long rope, and wrapping it tightly around a wooden spit. The spit goes into the oven, and you watch as the dough turns golden and begins to caramelize on the outside.

Once your Trdelník comes out warm and crisp, you choose from classic toppings—cinnamon sugar, walnuts, or other options—and customize it exactly how you want it. Then you eat it right there, still warm, while you sit with the other people in the class over coffee or tea. The whole thing takes about an hour from start to finish, and you leave with a Certificate of Excellence and the memory of having made something with your own hands in the middle of Prague.

What’s included

  • All ingredients and baking materials.
  • one freshly baked Trdelník with your choice of toppings.
  • coffee and/or tea during the break.
  • a Certificate of Excellence to commemorate the workshop.

Top questions

What exactly is a Trdelník and why is it so famous in Prague?

Trdelník is a traditional Czech chimney cake—a spiral pastry baked on a wooden spit until golden and crispy on the outside, then topped with cinnamon sugar, nuts or other toppings. It's Prague's most beloved street sweet and has been made this way for generations.

Do I need any baking experience to join the workshop?

No experience is necessary. The instructor guides you through every step—kneading, shaping and wrapping the dough around the spit—so beginners and experienced bakers learn together in the same session.

Can I eat the Trdelník I make, or do I take it home?

You eat your Trdelník fresh and warm right after baking it, with your choice of toppings, during the coffee and tea break with the other participants. It's meant to be enjoyed immediately while it's still crisp.

What allergens are present in the workshop space?

The workshop uses wheat (gluten), orange juice and zest, milk, nuts and coconut in a small shared space, and these allergens cannot be eliminated from the environment. If you have an allergy to any of these, the workshop is not suitable for you.

Is the instructor fluent in English?

Yes, the workshop is led by a live guide who teaches in English, so you'll understand every step of the process and the history behind the pastry.
