The Experience

The boat leaves Protaras Pier and heads south along the coast, passing the fishing shelter at Pernera and the limestone Church of Profitis Ilias before reaching Konnos Bay. You get a 30-minute swimming stop here in water so clear and calm that it's popular with families; the bay is also home to sea turtles, though diving from the boat isn't allowed to protect them. Bring snorkeling gear if you have it, or purchase it onboard.

From Konnos, the route continues toward Cape Greco, where you'll see the natural stone bridge and the small chapel of Agioi Anargyroi perched on a vertical cliff above the sea. The chapel, painted blue and white and dedicated to Saints Kosmas and Damianos, marks one of the best diving sites in the area—the water drops to about 9 meters at the entry point, revealing underwater vegetation and rock formations. The boat passes close enough to take in the setting without stopping.

The second swimming stop is the Blue Lagoon, where the water is so transparent you can see the seabed from the surface. This is the longer stop of the day, and diving is allowed from either deck. If you didn't purchase snorkeling equipment earlier, this is your chance to explore the underwater world. The lagoon fills with boats by midday, so the timing of your departure affects how crowded it feels.
