Step-by-step itinerary

Boat tour and snorkeling adventure

  • Dive into the Blue Cave
  • Explore and snorkel in Green Cave
  • Relax at Sunj Beach on Lopud Island

The experience

The boat departs and heads straight for the Blue Cave, where the water glows an intense blue from light filtering through an underwater opening. You snorkel in the cave's crystal-clear water, then move on to the Green Cave on Kalamota Island itself. This is where the real exploration happens: you have 45 minutes to navigate the Three Sisters, three connected caves you enter by water, snorkeling through each one and surfacing inside to see the rock formations above.

After the caves, the boat sails to Sunj Beach on Lopud Island. This is the unstructured part of the morning. Some people stay on the boat. Others swim the short distance to the sandy beach, order a cocktail or snack from the beach bar, and sunbathe for a while. The guide is there, but the pace is yours. You head back to the departure point after 3.5 hours total.

Moderate fitness helps. You're climbing in and out of the boat, snorkeling in open water, and navigating the cave entrances by swimming. The operator provides snorkels and soft drinks. Bring a towel and wear shoes you don't mind getting wet.

What exactly is the Green Cave, and how much time do you spend inside it?

The Green Cave is actually three connected caves called the Three Sisters, located on Kalamota Island. You have 45 minutes to explore and snorkel through all three, swimming between them and surfacing inside to see the cave interiors.

Do you need your own snorkel gear, or is it provided?

Snorkels are provided by the operator. Bring your own mask and fins if you prefer your own fit, but the basic equipment is included.

What's the difference between the Blue Cave and the Green Cave?

The Blue Cave is a single large chamber where light enters from underwater, making the water glow bright blue. You snorkel in open water there. The Green Cave is three smaller connected caves you navigate by swimming, with time to explore inside each one.

Is there time to actually spend on Sunj Beach, or is it just a quick stop?

Sunj Beach is not a quick stop. After the caves, you have unstructured time there: long enough to swim to shore, order food or a drink, sunbathe, or stay on the boat and relax. The exact time depends on the group, but it's a real break, not a photo stop.

What's included in the price, and what costs extra?

Snorkels and soft drinks are included. Food and cocktails at Sunj Beach cost extra and are ordered directly from the beach bar.
