The experience

The boat leaves the main pier at Donje Celo and cruises around Kalamota's untouched cliffs for about 30 minutes before anchoring at the Blue Cave. Once there, you swim or snorkel into the cave itself: the sun reflecting off the white sand floor casts the water in a deep blue light. Those who want to enter the water use the boat's ladder. Life jackets are on hand if you need one, and the skipper stays ready to help. You can float, swim deeper into the cave, or simply drift in the shallows, depending on how you want to spend the time.

After the cave, the boat passes the island's lighthouse and heads to Gornje Celo, the second village, where you have time to rest on the sandy beach or grab a drink or meal at one of the waterfront bars or restaurants before heading back to Donje Celo to finish.

Is this one for you?The guide speaks English, so you'll hear the story of the island and the cave as you go. If you're comfortable following commentary in English and want to swim at your own pace rather than on a fixed schedule, this works well. If you prefer a smaller group or a different language, check the other Kalamota options.
