The experience

Ever wondered what the sea looks like at night from just above the surface? I didn’t, honestly, until we were sitting on the pebbles at Verudela and our guide, Luka, handed me a paddle and pointed to these clear kayaks glowing like jellyfish. He grinned and said, “Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before. It’s easier than it looks.” The air was still warm but you could already smell that salty Adriatic breeze mixing with sunscreen and someone’s leftover pizza nearby. We got a quick rundown on how not to tip over (I’m proud to say I didn’t), then set out just as the last bit of orange faded from the sky.

The LED lights under our transparent kayak made everything below look sort of unreal: little fish darting in and out of rocks, bits of seaweed waving around, all of it softly lit up like an aquarium.
