Sunset wine tasting in Dubrovnik vineyard: Malaštica Hill views
Hike through olive groves, taste walnut liqueur and wine as the sun sets over the Adriatic
A sunset wine tasting at a vineyard on Malaštica Hill, 400 metres above the Adriatic Sea near Dubrovnik, where you hike through old forest, taste olive oil and craft white wine with the vineyard owner, and watch the sun disappear over Župa Dubrovačka. Hotel pickup is included, and the experience lasts around three hours. Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns or pregnancy.
The Experience
You're picked up from your hotel or a meeting point and driven to the foothills of Malaštica, where the hike begins through old forest filled with wild Mediterranean scents. The path is easy, and as you climb toward the vineyard, the vineyard owner and craft wine expert shares knowledge passed down through generations about how the land is cultivated. You'll see and touch the olive trees and vines, learning how oil and wine are made in this corner of Dalmatia that has fed Dubrovnik for centuries.
Once you reach the vineyard, the real tasting starts. You'll taste walnut liqueur first, then olive oil paired with home-made bread—the operator offers three different flavourings for the oil. The main event is the craft white wine of Vardia, tasted in the peaceful surroundings as the sun goes down. The view stretches across Župa Dubrovačka toward the Adriatic, with the mountains and sea framing the moment. After the sun disappears on the horizon, you walk back down to the car for the drive back to your accommodation.
