The Experience
The tour starts at a private farm in the Konavle Valley where you meet the group and learn about rural life before you ride. You'll have the chance to try horse riding if you want, then set off on your bike. Most of the route runs on asphalt with light traffic; a smaller section is off-road, and because more than half slopes downhill, the pedaling stays manageable even if you haven't cycled in years.
The first real stop is the chapel of St. Barbara, ringed by 104 stećci—stone graves, slabs and chests that are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. From there you ride ten minutes to Sokol Grad, a historic fortress you walk through at your own pace. Then comes a scenic stretch through the countryside where you can rest and explore on foot before reaching the old mills. A local operator runs them by hand and walks you through how they work, and you'll taste food specialties made with ingredients from the area.
The tour ends at a private vineyard on Gruda where a certified sommelier leads a tasting of local wines. You walk through the vineyards, hear about traditional winemaking, and sample several wines paired with a platter of local delicacies. The whole day is paced so you're not rushing between stops—there's time to absorb each place before moving on.
