The experience

The day starts with a tractor ride up the mountain: 15 minutes to reach the platforms. Then you descend on 10 cables strung across 12 platforms, some with views of the ocean and Jaco Beach. A certified bilingual guide stays with you the whole way, and safety equipment is provided. The zip line sits only 10 minutes from Jaco Beach and Los Suenos, so the logistics are straightforward whether you're staying in town or at the resort.

After you come down, the chocolate experience begins. You'll see the operator's collection of cacao varieties grown in the Central Pacific, learn how each one tastes different, and handle the actual fruit before it's processed. Then you move into making chocolate: mixing it with tropical fruits, tasting different types, and preparing your own version of the traditional cacao drink with ingredients you choose. Fresh fruit and bottled water are provided throughout.

The whole activity runs about 4 hours. Bring a credit card for any extras you want to purchase. Photos aren't included in the package, so if you want images of yourself on the cables, plan to buy them separately or bring a camera you can secure.
