Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Tubing adventure on Rio Celeste

  • Float down Rio Celeste in tube
  • Enjoy rainforest scenery
  • Spot wildlife like sloths and toucans
  • Relax and experience adrenaline

The first thing I noticed was the color — that unreal blue of the Rio Celeste. It almost looked fake, like someone dropped paint in the water. We could hear birds calling before we even got to the riverbank, and our guide Luis grinned when he handed me my tube. “You’ll see why it’s famous,” he said. I’d never done tubing before, so I was a bit nervous about falling out or looking ridiculous (spoiler: I did both).

The water felt cool but not freezing—just enough to wake you up. Floating along, you get these quiet moments where all you hear is your own splashing and maybe a monkey somewhere off in the trees. Luis pointed out a sloth curled up high above us; I squinted forever before finally spotting it. There were flashes of toucans overhead, too. At one point we hit a little rapid and I spun around backwards—laughed so hard I nearly swallowed river water. So yeah, bring a dry bag if you’re worried about your stuff.

Lunch was at this open-air spot nearby—rice, beans, some chicken that tasted smoky in a way I can’t describe (maybe wood-fired?). Everyone sat together at long tables, still dripping from the river. The rain started just as we finished eating, warm and heavy but somehow perfect for the place. Sometimes you forget how good it feels to just sit there tired and full after something like that. I still think about that view of the blue water framed by green leaves.
