The Experience
The tour strings together more than 10 zip lines across Monteverde's cloud forest, each one engineered to a different angle and height. The cables reach up to 3,400 feet in length and 600 feet in height, so the scale is real — you're not skimming treetops at a safe distance. The signature ride is the 1-kilometer Superman-style line where you're harnessed face-down, arms forward, flying prone through the canopy. There's also a completely underground zip, the only one in the country, which drops you into the forest floor and back out again.
A professional guide meets you at the start and stays with your group throughout, managing the harnesses, the clips and the pacing on each cable. They speak English or Spanish depending on your preference. You wear a helmet for every ride, and the tour operates in all weather — the cloud forest stays misty most of the year anyway, so rain doesn't stop it. The whole experience takes 2 to 3 hours from start to finish, which leaves the rest of your day open for other activities in the area.
Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes; the forest is thick and the cables run through branches. Children as young as 6 can join if an adult is with them, though the tour isn't recommended for anyone with spinal injuries or serious cardiovascular concerns. Bring a valid passport on the day of travel. Souvenir photos are available to purchase at the end if you want a record of the ride.
