Soar through the canopy instead of walking below it

Selvatura Park's canopy tour is a zip-line adventure through the Monteverde cloud forest where you harness in and ride between treetops on a series of cables, guided by a professional who handles all the equipment setup. The tour runs 2.5 to 3 hours and welcomes children from age 4 onward, though moderate fitness and cardiovascular health are necessary. A guide in English or Spanish leads the whole experience.

The Experience

The tour starts with gear fitting and safety instruction at Selvatura Park's base. You'll strap into a harness, helmet and gloves, then clip onto the first cable. From there, you zip between platforms built into the canopy, each one higher or deeper into the forest than the last. The guide goes ahead and manages your descent on each line, checking your setup before you launch. Between zips, you walk across suspension bridges or along wooden platforms anchored to the trees, staying 100+ feet above the ground the whole time.

What makes this different from a single zip-line is the sequence: you're not just dropping once and landing. Each cable takes you to a new vantage point, and the guide points out the forest as you move through it—the canopy structure, the wildlife that lives up here, the way the mist sits in the trees. You see the Monteverde cloud forest the way birds do, not the way hikers see it from below. The whole thing takes between 2.5 and 3 hours, which includes the safety briefing, the gear, and all the time on the lines and platforms.

Children as young as 4 can join if they're comfortable with heights and can follow instructions; they ride the same cables as adults. The guide is bilingual (English and Spanish), and all equipment—harness, helmet, gloves, carabiners—is provided. You need moderate fitness to handle the climbing between platforms and the physical engagement of the zip-line itself, and anyone with cardiovascular concerns, spinal injuries, or pregnancy should sit this one out. Public transportation runs near the park if you're not driving yourself.

Top questions

What's the difference between this canopy tour and a single zip-line drop?

Selvatura Park's tour chains multiple zip-lines together across the canopy, so you're moving from platform to platform through the forest for the full 2.5 to 3 hours, not just dropping once. Each line takes you to a new spot, and the guide narrates what you're seeing as you go.

Can my 5-year-old do this, or is it only for older kids?

Children from age 4 can join the canopy tour as long as they're comfortable with heights and can follow the guide's safety instructions. They use the same equipment and ride the same cables as adults, with the guide managing their descent on each line.

Do I need to be super fit to zip-line through the canopy?

You need at least moderate fitness because you'll be climbing between platforms, gripping the equipment, and engaging your core on each zip. The guide handles the technical part of the descent, but your own strength and cardiovascular health matter—anyone with heart concerns or spinal injuries should not do this tour.

What language is the guide in?

The guide speaks both English and Spanish, so you can choose which one works for your group when you book.

How do I get to Selvatura Park if I don't have a rental car?

Public transportation options are available near the park. You'll need to arrange your own way there, as hotel pickup is not included with the tour.

What happens if I'm afraid of heights—can I still do this?

The canopy tour is built around being high above the ground, so if heights genuinely frighten you, this activity isn't the right fit. The guide and equipment are safe, but the whole point is experiencing the forest from 100+ feet up in the canopy.
