Canyoning Los Anillos: Slide, jump and rappel in Colombia
Natural slides, deep-water jumps and waterfalls in one canyon
Canyoning Los Anillos is a guided activity in Colombia where you slide down natural rock formations, jump into clear pools and rappel past waterfalls. The experience includes a live guide in English or Spanish, protective gear, private transportation from the meeting point to Vallejuelo village, and snacks. The full day runs five hours with a 25-minute walk to the river and a 40-minute walk back out.
The Experience
What makes this different from a hike is that you're moving through the canyon itself: sliding down natural chutes worn smooth by water, jumping from ledges into pools deep enough to land safely, and rappelling down sections where the rock face drops too steeply to walk. The canyon is Los Anillos, fed by waterfalls that carve the route. You start with an equipment and medical briefing, then ride by car to Vallejuelo village where the walk to the river begins.
Once at the water, the descent starts. You'll encounter natural slides you can ride, larger jumps into clear pools where the depth lets you jump without hesitation, and sections where you rappel on a harness and rope. The waterfalls aren't just scenery. They're part of the path, and the water stays cold and clear. The guide leads the way and manages the rope work. You move at the group's pace through each section. After the canyon section ends, a 40-minute walk brings you back to the village and the car.
The whole outing takes five hours from start to finish. You'll wear a helmet, wetsuit, harness and life jacket. The wetsuit keeps you warm in the water and protects your skin on the rock. Private transportation is included, so there's no waiting for a shuttle or coordinating a meeting point beyond the start. Snacks come with the activity. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your group.

Is this one for you?At five hours total, this activity fills a morning or afternoon but leaves the rest of your day open. It's not a full-day commitment. The moderate fitness requirement and the jumps mean it's built for people comfortable with heights and water, not for a leisurely canyon walk.

What's the walk like to and from the canyon?
The walk to the river from Vallejuelo village takes about 25 minutes on a trail. After you finish the canyon section, you walk back out in roughly 40 minutes. Both are on foot but not technical climbing. The return walk is the longer of the two.
Do I need canyoning experience to do this?
No prior experience is required. The guide manages the rope work and leads each section. You need at least a moderate level of physical fitness because of the walking, jumping and climbing involved, and you should be comfortable in water and heights.
What happens if I'm not ready to jump?
The guide will show you each jump and explain the depth and landing. You can choose not to jump a particular section. The guide can help you rappel down or find an alternative route through that part of the canyon instead.
Is this safe for kids?
Children are welcome from age 12 and up. They wear the same protective gear as adults (helmet, wetsuit, harness and life jacket), and stay with the guide throughout. The guide adjusts the pace and support for younger participants.
How cold is the water?
The water stays cold year-round because it's fed by waterfalls. The wetsuit you wear keeps you warm and protects your skin. If you're sensitive to cold water, mention it during the briefing so the guide can help you manage the temperature.
What if I have a medical condition?
The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with poor cardiovascular health. During the briefing, you'll discuss your medical history with the guide so they can assess whether the activity is safe for you.
