Sofia Small Group City Tour: 2 Hours, 3 Churches & Hidden Sites
Two hours to see three churches and the stories that built Sofia
A 2-hour guided city tour of Sofia with a small group (up to 10 people) visiting Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Saint Sofia Basilica and Saint George Rotunda, plus the old Parliament, Royal residence, National theater, Roman remains and other landmarks in the city center. The guide shares lesser-known facts: why Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built, Constantine's connection to Sofia, who invented the Cyrillic alphabet, and what happened to Bulgaria's last royal family. A short café stop is included mid-tour, and afterward you receive recommendations for traditional restaurants and museums.

The Experience
The tour runs two hours and moves through Sofia's center on foot, hitting the three most important churches first. You'll stand inside Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Saint Sofia Basilica, then see Saint George Rotunda. Between the churches and the landmarks—the old Parliament, the Sinod, the Library, the monument of King Liberator, the old Royal residence, the National theater, the Largo complex, the presidency, the Roman remains, the old Baths and the judicial palace—the guide fills in the history that most visitors miss: why each building matters, who built it and what it meant to Bulgaria.
Halfway through, you stop at a café if you want coffee or water. The group stays small, capped at ten people, so the pace doesn't rush and you can ask questions. Your guide speaks English and knows the city well enough to answer the odd questions that come up—the ones about the royal family, about the dictator's mausoleum, about why a Roman emperor's name still clings to a Bulgarian capital. At the end, you get a list of traditional restaurants and museums worth visiting on your own time.
You can book this as a shared tour or as a private option if you want the guide to yourself. Either way, the route and the stops are the same. Gratuities for the guide are optional at the end.
