Step-by-step itinerary

East Island Beaches and Culture Tour

  • Pick up at hotels in city area
  • Stop at Morro da Lagoa Viewpoint
  • Visit Avenida das Rendeiras
  • Explore Joaquina Beach
  • Explore Praia Mole
  • Visit Viewpoint Lookout
  • Enjoy Barra da Lagoa Beach and local cuisine
  • Optional Natural Pool Trail hike

The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and heads to the eastern region of the island. A local guide fluent in Portuguese or Spanish meets you there and shapes the day around what matters to you. The pace is yours, and the itinerary can shift if a beach calls or a viewpoint deserves more time. The guide carries the cultural context: the families who settled this coast, the history woven into the neighborhoods, the reason Avenida das Rendeiras still feels like it did decades ago.

You stop at Morro da Lagoa for the first views, then move through Avenida das Rendeiras, where the guide records the moment and explains what you're seeing. Joaquina Beach and Praia Mole come next. Both are swimming stops, and the guide has the camera ready for photos. Barra da Lagoa rounds out the main beaches and is known for local food with Azorean roots, a natural place to eat if you want to linger. A natural pool trail is available if the group wants to add it. Chairs and umbrellas wait at each beach stop, so you're not standing in the sun while deciding whether to swim.

The whole tour runs four hours. Because it's private, you're never waiting for other groups or moving faster than makes sense. The guide speaks your language and knows when to talk and when to let the view do the work.
