  • Stop at Morro da Lagoa Viewpoint
  • Visit Canasvieiras Beach with guide
  • Stop at Jurerê International Beach

The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and heads north to the Morro da Lagoa Viewpoint, where you get a view across Joaquina Beach, the dunes, Praia Mole, and the lagoon itself. From there the guide takes you through a sequence of beaches (Canasvieiras, Jurerê International, Forte Beach, and Daniela) each one paired with the local history and the families who settled the northern coast. At each stop you swim if you want to, take photos (the guide helps), and sit under an umbrella between swims.

The route includes São José da Ponta Grossa Fort, a visit you can skip if you prefer, and ends at Sambaqui Beach, where you eat fresh seafood and oysters (the birthplace of oyster farming on the island), and watch the sunset from the water. The guide is a local who speaks Portuguese or Spanish, so the commentary stays grounded in the actual history of the place rather than a script. Because the group is just you and up to three others, the pace is quiet and there's no rushing between stops.

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you speak Portuguese or Spanish well enough to follow a guide's commentary, or if you're traveling with someone who does. The cultural context (the Azorean families, the oyster farming, the forts) is the heart of the day, and it comes through in the guide's voice and language, not in a translated script.
