The experience

We rolled out of downtown Florianópolis just as the city was waking up, wheels humming over the Hercílio Luz Bridge. Our guide, Renata, had this way of pointing out things I’d never notice: like how the bridge’s old steel beams almost glow in the early light. She joked about the traffic (“This is nothing, wait for Carnival!”) and then we were weaving through Largo da Alfândega Market. The smell of fresh pão de queijo hit me first, cheesy, warm. The day kept shifting gears.
