The experience

The route follows the Itajaí-Açú River valley through Blumenau, where the St. Paul's Apostle Cathedral dominates the skyline in bold red granite. Designed by German architect Gottfried Böhm and finished in 1958, the church sits in the city center with modern glass panels that catch the light. You'll also see the Prefecture, a historic enxaimel-style building that echoes Germany's oldest administrative structures, and Villa Germânica Park: a 40,000-square-meter complex reproducing a German villa with restaurants, beer halls and shops.

The second half moves to Pomerode, known as the most German city in Brazil and home to the largest collection of enxaimel buildings outside Germany itself. Stops include the Tourist Portal, Porcelanas Schmidt (a porcelain shop), a museum, the largest zoo in southern Brazil, Villa Encantada, and a craft brewery where you can see how beer is made. The day spans twelve hours with an air-conditioned vehicle and a guide who speaks either Spanish or Portuguese depending on your group.

Passenger insurance is included in the booking. Meals, snacks and entrance fees to individual attractions are not, so budget separately for lunch at one of the restaurants in Villa Germânica or elsewhere, and for any zoo or museum tickets you want to add. The tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels. Infants can travel in a stroller or sit on an adult's lap.
