The experience
The hike starts with a bus from Paraty to the trailhead at Laranjeiras, then follows forest trails through the Atlantic Rainforest for about four hours, with breaks along the way. You pass through the beaches of Sono and Antigos before reaching Ponta Negra, a fishing village accessible only by sea or walking trail, where you stay overnight in a cabin with a toilet and hot water shower. Fresh seafood is served on the beaches during the day.
On the second morning you set out early for Saco Bravo Waterfall, which sits on rocks overlooking the rough seas and has a naturally formed infinity pool. After exploring the waterfall and the rainforest pools around it, there is time to rest at Ponta Negra before a taxi boat returns you to the trailhead. You're back in Paraty by around 4pm. The terrain includes some hills and uneven surfaces, and the walking is moderate in difficulty. The guide carries remote first aid training.
Meals consist of one evening meal and breakfast. Lunch stops at beach kiosks are available to purchase along the way. You can request a vegetarian option when booking. The tour runs in all weather, so bring appropriate clothing and plan to carry water: about 1.5 liters per day, though there are places to refill on the hiking route. Groups stay at a maximum of twelve people.

Is this one for you?Groups of up to twelve people work well here, and the two-day structure means you have time to settle into the village and explore the waterfall without rushing. If you want a longer immersion in the rainforest and the chance to sleep where few tourists go, this fits better than a single-day hike from Paraty.
