The experience
How do you get across the world's largest salt flat without your own vehicle? The tour picks you up from your hotel or the bus terminal and drives you southwest into the Salar de Uyuni in a 4x4, stopping first at the Cemetery of Trains: the largest railway graveyard in the world, abandoned on the edge of the flats a few kilometers from town. From there the route opens into the immense salt expanse itself, crossing different salt eyes and passing Incahuasi Island before reaching the Dakar Monument. The guide navigates the stops and handles the driving. You step out at each one to photograph and walk the landscape.
The real draw is the Water Mirrors at sunset, where the salt flat becomes so reflective that the earth and sky merge into a single plane: no horizon, no line between ground and air. This is where the photographs happen, and where the scale of the place becomes real. Lunch is included during the day, and the guide speaks Spanish throughout. The tour lasts roughly seven hours and ends back in Uyuni by early evening.
A professional guide in Spanish is included. If you need English, that's an add-on at checkout. Entrance fees to the sites are separate from the tour price. The moderate fitness requirement reflects the altitude of the Altiplano and the amount of time spent getting in and out of the vehicle across uneven terrain.

Top questions
What is the Cemetery of Trains and why is it on the route?
The Cemetery of Trains is the world's largest railway graveyard, located southwest of Uyuni on the edge of the salt flats. It's the first stop because it marks the transition from town to the open Salar and gives a sense of the scale and isolation of the region before you enter the salt flat itself.
Can I book this tour with an English-speaking guide?
The tour includes a professional guide in Spanish. English-language guiding is available as an add-on for 40 USD per person, selected at checkout.
What happens at the Water Mirrors, and when do we get there?
The Water Mirrors is a section of the salt flat where the surface becomes reflective enough to mirror the sky, erasing the visible horizon. The tour reaches it at sunset, when the light is strongest and the reflection effect is most dramatic. This is the main photography moment of the day.
Is lunch included, and what about entrance fees to the sites?
Lunch is included in the tour price. Entrance fees to the individual sites (Incahuasi Island, Dakar Monument and others) are not covered and are paid separately.
What's included in the pickup, and where does the tour end?
Hotel pickup is included. If you're staying at the bus terminal, the driver will collect you there instead. The tour returns to Uyuni by approximately 6:30 p.m., dropping you back at your hotel or the terminal.
How many people travel together on this tour?
The 4x4 vehicle seats six passengers plus the driver and guide, so groups stay small and the vehicle can navigate the terrain.
