The experience
You start just under an hour outside Placencia Village at Mayan King, where seven ziplines crisscross the river and valley below. The longest line stretches 1,300 feet. The highest points reach 400 feet into the canopy. The setup is built for all ages (children can ride tandem with a guide or another adult if needed), so the pace stays steady and the views stay constant as you move through the treetops.
After the ziplines, a short hike brings you down to the river for a 45-minute tube ride. The water is mostly calm, with a few quick rapids mixed in. Two guides travel with the group (one at the start, one at the end) to help navigate. Life jackets and helmets are provided, and the float gives you time to settle into the landscape before the next part of the day.
A short drive takes you to a natural waterfall where the day winds down. You can swim in the pool at the base, hike up to a second falls if you want more, or simply sit by the water. Lunch and fresh juice are included, along with an air-conditioned vehicle for transport and parking fees covered. Guides speak English and Spanish, and pickup from your hotel is part of the booking.
