The experience
The day starts with a 100-mile drive through the hills of Belize, heading toward Jaguar Paw. Once you arrive, a roughly 10- to 25-minute hike brings you to the cave entrance. The walk is short enough to warm up without exhausting you before the main event.
Then you get in the tube. You float through limestone archways that open into caves holding the weight of centuries: places where Maya people performed rituals and ceremonies long before the modern world found them. The formations around you are shaped by water and time, not by human hands. Your guide shares what these caves meant to the people who used them, turning the float from a ride into a story. You navigate the passages at a pace the water sets, moving through darkness lit only by what comes through the cave openings.
Lunch and bottled water are included, along with all the gear you need to tube safely. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the drive back. You'll need to bring closed-toe shoes for the hike, swimwear, a towel, water shoes (no flip-flops), bug spray, sunglasses, sunscreen and ideally a waterproof camera with a strap so you can document the caves without risking your phone.
