Step-by-step itinerary

Cave tubing and ziplining adventure

  • Get picked up from hotel or port
  • Board inner tubes and float into Jaguar Paw Cave
  • Explore cave formations with headlamp light
  • Enjoy zipline through rainforest canopy
  • Climb to tree platforms and secure harnesses
  • Zipline at high speed over forest

The experience

You get picked up from your hotel or port and driven to Jaguar Paw, where you board an inner tube and float into the cave on tranquil currents. Headlamps light the passage as you drift past stalactites and stalagmites. The cave formations are the main event here, and the float is slow enough to take them in without rushing. After a few hours underground, you climb out and move to the ziplining section of the site.

The zipline setup has you climbing to platforms built high in the trees, where guides attach you to a harness connected to cables strung through the rainforest. You then launch yourself into the air, moving at speed from one platform to the next and getting a view of the canopy from above: the plants and animals that live there are visible from the lines in a way they're not from the ground. The combination of the two activities means you see the landscape from multiple angles: submerged in the cave, then suspended in the trees.

Lunch and bottled water are provided during the day. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the drive to and from the site. A guide leads both the cave and zipline sections and speaks English or Spanish depending on your preference. The full outing takes seven to eight hours from pickup to return.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the cave tubing part actually like, is it scary or just floating?

Cave tubing at Jaguar Paw is a float on an inner tube through calm water, not a rapid or whitewater experience. The currents are tranquil, and the main focus is drifting past the cave formations lit by your headlamp. It's relaxing rather than thrilling, and you spend a few hours in the cave before moving to the zipline section.

Do I need to be fit to do both the cave tubing and ziplining?

The activity requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The cave tubing itself is low-effort, but the ziplining involves climbing to elevated platforms and launching from them repeatedly, which demands some strength and stamina.

What happens if I'm not comfortable with heights or going fast on the ziplines?

The zipline section moves at high speed through the rainforest canopy, so if heights or speed are concerns, this part of the activity may not suit you. The cave tubing portion is low-key and ground-level in terms of physical sensation, but the ziplining is the main adrenaline component of the day.

Is the cave tubing safe for infants or very young children?

Infants can participate in cave tubing if they sit on an adult's lap in the inner tube, and specialized infant seats are available. However, the ziplining portion requires participants to be harnessed and launched from platforms, which is not suitable for young children. Check with the operator on minimum age for that section.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?

The price includes hotel or port pickup, the inner tube and headlamp for the cave, all zipline harnesses and equipment, lunch, bottled water, and the air-conditioned vehicle for transport. Bring a change of clothes and a towel (towels are not provided), and wear shoes that can get wet or bring water shoes for the cave section.
