The Experience
Placencia Village is where the tour departs, heading first to a small cacao farm where the farmer walks you through his organic operation—how the beans grow inside the pods, how they're extracted, and what makes the crop work on his land. This isn't a quick stop; the farmer gives you the full history so you understand what you're working with before you ever touch it.
From the farm you head to a small indoor chocolate facility where the actual making happens. You'll learn to grind the beans on traditional stones, the same method Mayan people used centuries ago, and by the end of it you're holding a chocolate bar you made yourself. The process moves from raw cacao to finished product in the same afternoon, so the connection between the farm and what lands in your hands stays clear.
After the chocolate work, the tour stops at a nearby waterfall to swim and cool off. The whole experience runs about four hours from start to finish, with an air-conditioned vehicle moving you between stops.
