The experience

The structure flips what most people expect from a wine country picnic. You begin with a guided tasting flight (a curated selection of Jacob's Creek wines), so you can taste before you commit to a bottle. That bottle then becomes the centerpiece of your meal. A vineyard tour comes first, then the tasting, so you understand the land before the glass hits your lips.

Once you've picked your wine, you collect your picnic: a platter from Harvest Kitchen built around local Barossa and South Australian producers (meats, cheese, pickled vegetables, dip and bread), along with bottled water, recyclable cutlery and plates, and a set of Jacob's Creek stemless glasses to take home. You choose where to settle on the expansive lawns or one of the designated picnic spots around the site. The whole thing is designed to fit into about two hours, though there's no clock pushing you off the rug.

Everything is wheelchair accessible, and the site welcomes prams, strollers and service animals. If the light platter doesn't fill you up, you can buy additional items on the day from the restaurant partner. You leave with the glassware and a tote bag as a memento, plus whatever's left of the wine.
