You spend day one on Bruny Island tasting local honey, cheese and oysters while walking beaches and rainforest; day two takes you through Port Arthur's convict history with a guided tour and harbour cruise, plus stops at a chocolate foundry and lavender farm on the way. Hotel pickup from Hobart is included, and you're back by evening both days.
The bus leaves Hobart at 7:30 AM on day one, heading south across the water to Bruny Island. You'll stand at the Cape Bruny Lighthouse lookout — 360 degrees of Tasman Sea, the peninsula behind you, and the island spreading out below — and understand why this place keeps showing up on lists. The morning moves through a temperate rainforest walk, then down to Adventure Bay for coffee or a swim if you're game. By midday you're at the Hotel Bruny pub in Alonnah for lunch, and after that the stops come faster: The Honey Pot (1,000 hives on the island), Bruny Island Cheese Company, oyster tasting. It's not a museum tour; it's a day built around what the island actually produces and why people come here. The bus gets you back to Hobart by 5:30 PM.
Day two is Port Arthur, and it moves differently. The 8-hour tour departs at 9:30 AM, and the first hour is scenic stops on the way down the Tasman Peninsula — Eaglehawk Neck's Pirate Bay lookout, the Dog Line Monument, then the Tasmanian Chocolate Foundry (which is exactly what it sounds like). The Lavender Farm comes next, handmade products and a walking trail through rows of purple. Then you reach Port Arthur itself. You get 4 hours to walk the penal settlement, and it's included: a 35-minute guided walk and a 20-minute harbour cruise come with your ticket. The site is the best-preserved convict colony in Australia, and the history is dense — not just the buildings, but the stories of who was sent there and why. If you want to skip an hour of Port Arthur and see more of the peninsula, you can hop back on the bus for Maingon Bay and the Remarkable Cave, where you descend 115 steps into ancient sandstone cliffs.
Both days run with a local guide and an air-conditioned vehicle. Hotel pickup is included if you're within 5 kilometres of Hobart's CBD. The pace is steady but not rushed — you're not racing between stops, and there's time to actually look at things. Port Arthur entry is the only cost on top; everything else — park passes, the guide, the vehicle, the harbour cruise — is already paid.
