You leave Hobart early, heading south for a 30-minute drive to Kettering and the ferry terminal. The ferry ride itself is part of the day — Bruny sits off Tasmania's coast, and the crossing gives you time to settle in before the walking starts. Once on the island, the guide leads you onto the Cape Queen Elizabeth trail, an easy-to-moderate coastal walk that doesn't rush. The first half hour is a wide, sandy track through coastal heathland, passing between two lagoons where water birds gather. Then comes a 10-minute climb over Mars Bluff, where the elevation opens up views across the coast. You walk down to Miles Beach to see the rock formations and the Arch itself — the kind of landmark that stops you mid-step — before heading back. The full walk is around 6 kilometres and takes the morning.

After the hike, you drive to The Neck, the narrow isthmus joining North and South Bruny. Trugannini Lookout sits at the top of 279 stairs, and the reward is a full 360° view of the island and the surrounding water. The guide points out penguin burrows among the sand dunes. You stop briefly at Two Tree Point and Resolution Creek for some local history before arriving at Adventure Bay, where you have a lunch break. You can spread out on the beach with food you've brought, or walk to the beachfront café with the guide — the choice is yours, and the timing is built in.

The afternoon is the tasting trail. You visit Bruny Island Chocolate Company first, where you can taste handmade cream fudges and chocolate products. Next is Bruny Island Honey, offering free tastings of the island's natural honey and honey ice cream. Then Bruny Island Cheese Co., where the artisan cheesemaker also runs a cellar door. The last stop is Get Shucked Oyster Farm, where you can grab takeaway oysters straight from the water. By 5pm you're back on the ferry to Hobart, having walked a remote coast, climbed to views, and tasted four producers in a single afternoon.
