A full-day trek and canoe tour in Tierra del Fuego National Park near Ushuaia combines a 3-hour summer hike (or shorter winter walk) through native forest and along the Beagle Channel with a 1-hour paddle down the Lapataia River in inflatable canoes. The Experience

The day starts with a shared pickup from your Ushuaia hotel and a short drive to Tierra del Fuego National Park, about 7 miles away on the channel Charles Darwin once sailed. In summer, you'll hike roughly 7 km along the coast or high pampa—the route depends on weather and terrain—spotting the Beagle Channel's diverse bird life and Fuegian forest, with stops to take in views of Redonda, Hoste and Navarino islands and the remains of ancient Yámana settlements. Winter brings a different landscape: the Shore Path closes, so you'll either walk the Pipo River Valley or board the 'End of the World' train for an hour (train ticket separate), then continue by vehicle through Acigami Lake, Green Lagoon, and Ovando River with short forest walks, often across snow or ice.

After a 3-hour moderate hike in summer or an easy 2-hour walk in winter, you'll reach Acigami Lake—also called Lake Roca—where a heated dome-tent shelters you for lunch with panoramic views. A bilingual guide leads the group, and the meal includes hot beverages and wine. Then comes the paddle: equipped with inflatable canoes that seat up to 9 people plus the guide, you'll spend about an hour paddling down the Lapataia River from the freshwater lake toward the sea. The canoeing is low-difficulty, though it depends on weather conditions; if conditions allow, you'll reach Lapataia Bay where the river meets the ocean.

Hotel drop-off closes the day. Bring waterproof and fleece layers, good-grip shoes, a hat and sunglasses—the region is cold and wet year-round. The tour is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with cardiovascular concerns; moderate fitness is expected. Children are welcome from age 5.
