The experience
The day starts at Morales 564 in Bariloche. You travel by air-conditioned vehicle down Route 40 to the edge of Nahuel Huapi National Park, where Ranch Josh sits at the river's edge. Coffee and croissants arrive first, then a guide walks you through the safety talk before you board. The Manso River from here to the border is the work: you navigate through Cajón de Terciopelo, Agujero de Ozono, Gritá y doblá a la izquierda, el Tobogancito, Garganta Profunda, Éxtasis, Huevo Revuelto, and Colmillo before reaching the Internacional. The line where water travel ends and the walk back to Bariloche begins.
What you wear matters: neoprene suit and waterproof jacket come with your booking, along with a safety kayak and all river clothes. The guide is live and speaks English or Spanish. The rapids demand attention and effort. This is not a float. The narrow canyons mean the river changes character with each section, and the names (Huevo Revuelto, Éxtasis, Garganta Profunda) are not poetic: they describe what happens in the water. You need at least moderate cardiovascular fitness and a current valid passport on the day you go.
The season runs November through April. The full day (meet, drive, brief, paddle, walk back, return to Bariloche) takes 10 hours. Bring a bathing suit, water-resistant footwear or sandals, and a towel. Lunch and drinks are available to order at the location. Gratuities are separate.
What’s included
- Air-conditioned transport from Bariloche to Ranch Josh and back.
- coffee with croissants before you start.
- professional guide in English or Spanish.
