A half-day private fly fishing or spinning trip on the Limay River near Bariloche, where you fish from a specialized raft designed for fast-flowing mountain water, stopping often to wade the banks in the best spots. The Experience

The Limay River flows out of Nahuel Huapi lake about 17 kilometers from Bariloche, winding through dry rocky mesas dotted with pine forest. Your guide picks you up from your hotel and takes you to the river, where you board a Cata-Raft—a specialized boat built for fast-flowing mountain water, small and responsive enough to reach spots motorboats cannot. The river holds rainbow and brown trout, and from April through March the fishing changes: dry fly fishing peaks from November through March, while April brings big trout migrating down from the lake. The five different sections of river each run about 10 miles, and your guide knows which one suits the season and the conditions on the day you go.

You fish for about 12 kilometers of the river, drifting and casting from the boat, then stopping often to wade the banks where the guide spots the best holding water. All tackle and gear come with you—rods, reels, lines, flies, waders, shoes—so you need no experience to start. Your guide teaches you the fishing options as you go, and also shares the history of the region and the local wildlife. The extremely clear water and the scenery stay constant; what changes is where the fish are feeding and how to reach them. After five hours on the water, you pull ashore where assistants are waiting with trucks to drive you back to your hotel.

Choose fly fishing or spinning when you book, and pick either the morning or afternoon departure. The trip takes a maximum of two people per booking, so it stays private and the guide can focus on your technique and where to cast. Snacks and beverages are included during the float. The fishing season runs November 1st through May 1st each year across the National Park; if you're traveling outside those months, some lakes stay open year-round, though the Limay itself closes.
