Fly Fishing Bariloche: Limay River with Professional Guide
Cast into Patagonia's clearest waters and land rainbow and brown trout
A full-day fly fishing trip on the Limay River in Bariloche's Nahuel Huapi National Park with a private guide, boat and all equipment included. Hotel pickup starts at 8am; no fishing experience is necessary, and casting instruction is part of the day. Lunch at the riverside includes grilled steak, salads and Argentine Malbec wine. The guide speaks English, and a fishing license can be arranged for an additional fee.
The Experience
You're picked up from your hotel at 8am and driven to the Limay River, where your private guide launches the boat for the day. The river sits in the heart of Patagonia's Nahuel Huapi National Park, and the water is clear enough that you'll see the trout holding in the current. Rainbow and brown trout are the main catch here, along with Patagonian perch. If you've never fly fished before, your guide walks you through the casting basics on the water—no prior experience required. All the gear comes with you: waders, wading boots, rods, reels, lines and flies are provided, so you show up with nothing but your willingness to fish.
At midday, the guide sets up lunch at the riverside. You get appetizers, fresh salads, a grilled steak cooked Argentine-style, and a glass of Malbec wine to go with it. After eating, you're back on the water until around 6pm, fishing the afternoon stretch before heading back to town. The whole day runs about ten hours from pickup to drop-off, with the guide handling the boat, the strategy and the logistics so you can focus on the fishing.
The boat is private—just you, your guide, and one other person if you're bringing someone. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the drive to and from the river, and you'll have coffee, tea, snacks and bottled water available throughout the day. A fishing license isn't included in the price because many anglers already hold a Patagonian license, but your guide can arrange one for an additional $35 USD if you need it.
