The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel or a central location, then moves through the city's historic core. You'll stand at the Obelisk to photograph the skyline, walk past Casa Rosada where Argentine independence was announced, and enter the Metropolitan Cathedral to see where General San Martín rests. The guide explains the history of each stop rather than rushing through. You get time to take photos and ask questions as the route unfolds.
The afternoon takes you through neighborhoods that define Buenos Aires. You'll pass the colorful alleys of Caminito in La Boca, visit Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo where the independence declaration happened in 1816, and stop at Café Tortoni, the city's notable bar. Puerto Madero, the gastronomic neighborhood built around a waterfront, includes a view of the Calatrava building shaped like two tango dancers. In Palermo, you'll see Floralis Generica, the pop monument from the 1990s that draws crowds for photos, and pass through the Japanese Garden and Tres de Febrero Park.
Teatro Colón, known for having the world's best acoustics, anchors the cultural stops. You'll also pass the Congress building, the Faculty of Law, and the Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore, which occupies the original Grand Splendid theater building and has a bar on its historic stage. The tour ends with a visit to Recoleta Cemetery, an open-air museum where Eva Perón and Juan Manuel de Rosas are buried. If you choose the football stadium option at checkout, the Boca Juniors Stadium replaces some stops and includes the neighborhood's history.
