It's one of the most photographed spots in Argentina, and standing there on a bike, you understand why.

The ride takes you through Caminito next, the colourful open-air museum where tango was born and the old conventillos line the water. You stop here for a real moment—time to walk, take pictures, buy something if you want—before cycling alongside the Ecological Reserve, where hundreds of bird species move through the shade and the river opens up in front of you. Then comes Puerto Madero, the newest neighbourhood, where the city's second port gleams with modern architecture and green space pressed up against the water. A sandwich and a non-alcoholic drink are waiting for you here, included in the tour, which means you're not hunting for lunch or negotiating with vendors. You eat, you rest, you keep moving.

The afternoon swings north through Plaza de Mayo—the second birthplace of the city, with La Casa Rosada and the Cathedral Metropolitana holding centuries of history between them—and into Retiro, where monuments to different wars and different eras cluster together.
