The experience

The ride starts at the shop in Montserrat and heads into Retiro, where the guide points out the San Martín monument, Torre Monumental and the Kavanagh Building: a 1930s landmark that shaped how Buenos Aires looked to the world. From there you move into Recoleta, passing the cemetery's exterior (you don't enter) and stopping at Floralis Genérica, the metal flower sculpture that opens and closes with the sun. The guide shares the stories behind these places: who built them, what they meant to the city, which ones matter now.

The second half takes you into Palermo, where the route crosses into El Rosedal: the rose garden in the middle of the Palermo woods. You'll see the bridge and the 26 busts of poets and writers from around the world, including Borges and Shakespeare. The guide gives you time to walk and take pictures instead of rushing through. The pace is set so you can actually look at what you're riding past. Barrio Norte comes next, the neoclassical neighbourhood that reminds visitors of Paris, before the route loops back toward the Congress building with its 80-meter green dome.

You get a bike, helmet and a guide who speaks English or Spanish. The four-hour loop works for all fitness levels on flat city streets, though you need to be at least 12 years old, 1.50 meters tall and comfortable handling traffic. Bring your own water.
